STIAS Research Fellowship

Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) fellowships 2022.cover all costs related to travel, accommodation, and day-to-day living expenses in Stellenbosch. Applications for fellowships of one academic semester, (approximately mid-January to mid-June 2022; or mid-July to mid-December 2022) may be submitted via e-mail at any time in advance of announced deadlines. Upcoming deadlines are 15 December 2020 and 31 May 2021 for the above-mentioned semesters respectively. STIAS has over the past two decades established itself as a leading, independent Institute for Advanced Study, the first of its kind in Africa. It seeks to advance scholarship across all disciplines. It is born from a belief in the capacity of Africa as a leading contributor to the global

research community and producer of new knowledge.

Modelled on similar Institutes internationally, STIAS offers various fellowships and scholarships and provides a uniquely supportive space for thinking, reading, debating and writing in its state-of-the-art research centre in Stellenbosch. While in residence, established

and emerging researchers from across the world focus on their research, meet daily at lunch, present and participate in weekly seminars, and lectures for a wider audience. In creating and curating this space, STIAS provides ideal conditions for innovative and original thinking to thrive.

STIAS will reach a major milestone in 2021 as the first institution outside of Scandinavia to cohost a Nobel Symposium. This will become an annual event and dates will be announced on our website soon. For a researcher to be in residence at STIAS during one of these prestigious events will be a lifetime opportunity to engage with Nobel Laureates and other world research leaders.
